New toy

Last week, I rewarded myself with a brand new handphoneand I’m loving it to bits!

As my son is so fond of gadgets nowadays, my handphone has always been one of his favourite toys. I guess that I was how the monitor of my old handphone got damaged: due to constant throwing and dropping.

The safest option was actually to buy a cheap handphone, it view of the ‘violent’ user that I have at home (and not to mention, myself!), but the new iphone4 was just to hard to resist.

When I went to Digital Mall last week to find as suitable cover for my new phone, I asked one of the sales person there for his opinion.

‘ Yang mana cover atau casing bagus untuk bagi handphone tak rosak kalau anak anak saya main?’

He then gave me a look.

‘ Aiiyyaa…Senang saja. Iphone mana boleh kasi anak main..’

I then found my answer. I just can’t be too kind to my son and allow him to play with every single thing that I own..I have been sort of successful so far..

Anyway, back to my iphone..

It has been my savior for a few occasions this past one week:

1. Used it to review my script that was sent to me via email by my partner, when I was rehearsing for the Allergy Seminar, as I didn’t have a functioning printer at home.

2. Used it as a translator as the script was in Malay and we had difficulty to translate a few English words.

3. Used it a camera, when I saw interesting clinical signs at work.

4. Used it as a torchlight to view the fusebox when I house was blacked out today.

I initially couldn’t decide whether I should sign up for the 1 year of 2 year contract, but now, I don’t think I will ever be tired of this phone..:)

Hello MacBook

I've been meaning to buy a new laptop for myself, and my dream finally came true when i got a MacBook Air as a gift from my dad! Cool eh?

At the moment, am still learning how to use a Mac. After all, I've been using Microsoft all my life.

Some of the things that I love about my new gadget:

1. How thin and light it is: only 1.07kg.

2. How sleek it looks

3. How beautiful my photos turn out to be when I view it on iPhoto

I have a lot more to learn, and am still used to the usual shortcuts that work on Microsoft but not on a Mac. For example:

1. Control+N to open a new window when browsing on Explorer, but instead, need to press the Command key + N

2. Control + arrow to move to the next word when typing, but on Mac, it will jump straight to the end of the sentence.

etc..

Am sure I will get used to all this soon. From what I've heard, once you have started to use a Mac, you will never go back..

Now, I need to install Microsoft Office for Mac on my MacBook..

Pink notebook

My husband and I were walking around in Subang Parade recently after having dinner at Sakae Sushi when I spotted this notebook from the 2nd floor. Sony was having a booth just opposite Big Apple Doughnuts and this cute lil notebook caught my attention. I just had to see it up close!

You see, I've been thinking of getting a notebook for the past one month, and so far this has been the most attractive one. I initially thought of getting the ASUS notebook, just because it's got my nickname on its cover, ie. Eee.



Anyways, now I just can't stop thinking about this notebook.



The price is RM 1899-inclusive of one year warranty and trial version of Microsoft Office.

Should I get it?

From Nokia to LG to Nokia again

I miss my old phone. Have been using it since I lost my Nokia 3120 at the O&G ward in 2006. It took me a while to get used to the software, but love the phone for its touch screen function, sleek design and shocking colour. Even though it lacked the MMS function and memory card, the phone had served me well.

And again, I lost my phone in the O&G ward. This time not at HTAR, but at Banting Hospital. Searched for it high and low for 2 days, but could not find it. Most likely I misplaced it (I have a tendency of leaving things here and there), or someone took it while I left my lab coat somewhere. Oh well, I took the unfortunate bad event positively and grabbed the opputunity to get a new phone instead.

I bought a Nokia 6500 slide yesterday. Before purchasing it, I have put much thought into the new phone that I planned to buy. I wanted a slide phone, elegant design, good camera and it had to be less than RM1500. A friend of mine, Pravin recommended me this phone and I fell in love with it the instant I saw it.

So far, I've no regrets with this phone. I just love its appearance and user-friendly software. The camera takes good shots too. I would recommend this phone to anybody.

I did it!

I will mark this day on my calender..why? coz my Brain Age is finally 20!

Some may not know what I'm talking about. Well, it all started when my mum bought a Nintendo DS a couple of months back. She read about it in the papers, and they claimed that the game will somehow improve your brain function by doing the various training programs that it offers..After about a month, my sister decided to buy one for herself, and that was when I hooked to the game..

It has various 'games' such as Calculations x 20, reading aloud, low to high, syllable count, head count and time lapse. By spending a few minutes on each 'game', our prefrontal cortex will be stimulated and thus will make our brain function better. At at any point in time, we could go to another section of the program to calculate our 'brain age.'

I was religiously doing the training program on a daily basis till I was transferred to Banting. Thanks to my friend Yang, he managed to find an almost similar game for me called Brain Game, which was in a PDA format. Hence, I could still 'exercise' my brain despite leaving the Nintendo behind.

After weeks of training, I decided to calculate my brain age. And finally, I got a 20! The youngest brain age that we possibly achieve! And it's younger that my actual age..

P/S: My sis is not bothered by my achievement coz her brain age is 20 since she first got the game. If you're reading this, let me tell you something. I 'll beat all your high scores one day! You'll see! :)

Wireless at last

This is the first time I'm posting a blog from my laptop..We finally have wireless at home. Dad's tech guy came to the house this morning, and he completed the whole process in TWO hours. I know, two hours is really long right...Allow me to ellaborate.

0830: The guy came to the house and I was forced to get up from bed in case he needed any assistance.

0840: He installed the 3 Com Wireless Router on our desktop without any difficulties.

0845: This was when the problem started. In order to use the router, we had to enter the streamyx password. None of us remembered what the password was! We searched through all the old streamyx documents that we had but none of them had the info that we needed.

0900: I finally thought of calling TMnet for the password. Turns out somebody had changed the password (most likely my brother who was currently at school) and the default password could not be used. Hence, she had to reset the password and a new password was then given to me. The new password can only be used after half an hour.

0930: We finally managed to be online, using our desktop.

0935: The guy wanted to test out the wireless function. I took out my laptop for him to use.

0940: Again, problems arose. Somehow, my laptop could not detect the wireless connection. I found it puzzling coz I was able to go online without difficulties a couple of months back at Starbucks.

1000: Still trying to connect to the internet using my laptop. At this point, he is suspecting a possible viral infection on my pc and he's trying to uninstall possible programs that may have been infected by it.

1005: He wanted to uninstall my antivirus program, ie. symantec antivirus, but I was unlucky enough that a password is required for that. AAaaargh! Not another password!

1010: He was about to give up at this point. He asked for another laptop, but the only other laptop available was my sister's, and her charging cable is malfunctioned. Great.

1015: Aaaahhh...finally I'm able to go online using my laptop. Somehow, he made some modifications here and there and so called virus was defeated.

He installed the AVG Anti-spyware on my laptop, which will locate the 'trojans' and hence will make my laptop run faster.

1020: Went to all the rooms to try out the wireless function. Even my maid's room had internet access now. Cool!

1030: Everything's done. The tech guy left and I continued surfing the net..
